The Elizabeth Smith McAshan Memoir (no date; one legal folder) is an unbound 71 page account of the life and times of Elizabeth Smith McAshan. The memoir contains information and perspective on the South at the end of the civil war. There is also a transcription of the memoir that includes brief biographical information on the McAshan family.

Van Deavender Civil War Memoir Collection

The memoir was written by Van Deavender, the grandfather of Sylvan Cohen of Huntsville, Texas. The original Civil War memoir was given to Sam Houston State University by Sylvan Cohen in 1984. The memoir was transcribed by Charles Dwyer.
